Resources for Families during COVID
Hello Snell’s Families!!
We have an update regarding our return to school which we need to share with you. As you know we had hoped to be able to return on April 7, however, San Joaquin County’s most recent local Emergency Order issued March 26, 2020, calls “for all educational institutions in the County to remain closed until the Order is modified or rescinded.” In other words, we are closed until further notice. We will keep you apprised of any change to this order as we get it!
We miss you all and hope you are all staying healthy and staying home!
3/30/2020 - Here is an updated list of resources I hope you will find useful:
We at Snell’s don’t particularly encourage the use of worksheets but in our current situation of being away from the classroom, having these worksheets will give your child the opportunity to continue doing some of the activities they have started in class, especially our 4s PreK children. We would not necessarily recommend these for our 3s PreK children. If you do use this resource for other activities, please remember that worksheets, while serving a purpose at times, are not necessarily the best learning tools for preschoolers. For those of you who have children that enjoy the worksheets (or you need something for your child to do quietly), you can find additional resources at www.lakeshorelearning.com/resources.
Making patterns: https://s7d9.scene7.com/is/content/OCProduction/content/worksheets/candyHeartsColorPatterns.pdf
Counting and coloring: https://s7d9.scene7.com/is/content/OCProduction/content/worksheets/appleTreesCountColor.pdf
Tracing letters and numbers: https://s7d9.scene7.com/is/content/OCProduction/content/worksheets/alphaPractice.pdf
For those parents who enjoy crafting with their children here are some additional resources for you. Not all may be age appropriate for your preschooler. https://www.lakeshorelearning.com/resources/free-resources/crafts
At Snell’s we focus a great deal on Gross Motor and Fine Motor Skills at each level, 3s PreK and 4s PreK. While researching for this page, I came across a PreSchool in Benoni, South Africa, with some excellent links and resources. Ah, the wonder of the Internet!
Activities for using Gross Motor Skills (big muscle skills):
Fun Activity with balloons https://handsonaswegrow.com/gross-motor-activity-preschoolers-energy/
Indoor fun https://handsonaswegrow.com/5-minute-indoor-energy-busters/
Activities list for using Fine Motor Skills (little muscle skills): https://handsonaswegrow.com/kids-activities/fine-motor-activities/
Learning through fun:
Various fun activities for 3 year olds: https://handsonaswegrow.com/activities/preschool-activities/3-year-olds/
Various fun activities for 4 year olds: https://handsonaswegrow.com/activities/preschool-activities/4-year-olds/
Various fun activities for 5 year olds: https://handsonaswegrow.com/activities/kindergarten-activities/5-year-olds/
And, lastly, fun (and educational, too) Scavenger Hunts for all to participate in: https://primaryplayground.net/scavenger-hunts/
We know that trying to fill that time at home with your preschooler can be difficult. Since we can’t go out to other venues at this time, outdoor time may be limited for some of you. For those of you who have online access and who don’t mind your child having some screen time, we can suggest ABC Mouse for some online early learning resources. For those of you who want to try out ABC Mouse, I would suggest signing up for the 30 day FREE trial. Once you have logged into ABCmouse.com, click on the Try it for Free video link in the middle of the page and, after watching the video, click on LEARN MORE which takes you to the sign up page for the FREE 30 Day Trial. NOTE: you must cancel prior to the 30 days to not be billed. You can cancel online in the Parent Portal of ABC Mouse.
And, for those parents whose child keeps saying “I miss my friends”, Facebook Messenger has an app called Messenger Kids. Parents control this app and who your child may interact with through messaging or Facetime. I know that some parents have already discovered this app but it is another resource for your child to stay in touch with their friends ….and teachers, too, if they want….during this time away from school.
I will try to post more as I find the resources. We sure do miss you all!
Miss Jo

3/24/2020 - Following are a few fun and academic activities and websites that may be of interest to you and your child. All are currently free. Hopefully they will help fill some time while school is closed!
Salt Dough Eggs – For those of you who enjoy crafting, this project is a fun family or group activity as well as something your child can do with a little supervision.
https://www.designmom.com/diy-salt-dough-eggs/
Worksheets – to be printed for your child to use to reinforce what we have been doing in primarily our 4s Pre-K class.
Ocean Life - Cut and Paste
Trace and write missing letters
Circle the right number
https://family.gonoodle.com/ GoNoodle has a lot of Music and Movement (the basis for much of Snell’s curriculum) which your child will love. Parents, because this program is designed for multiple grade levels, we might suggest previewing and/or locking out some of the videos and games for your preschooler.
By now you all should have received an email inviting you to join www.GetEpic.com which gives you and your child an opportunity to read a book together or your child can listen to a book as it is read to him/her. There are also videos to watch and books to listen to however there are no illustrations to see as the book is being read. This program works on table top computers and laptops, as well as tablets and cell phones.
The main screen gives you lots of options but you will primarily want to use the links: For You and Read to Me to start. We would recommend having your child use the Read to Me link more than For You as it allows your child to be more independent which might help, especially if you are a parent working from home.
When done, click on your child’s name in the upper right hand corner of the screen and click Log Out on the drop-down menu.
We will add to this list as we find additional links and activities for you. If any of you have fun sites you would like to share, just send a link to the site in an email to jo@snellsprek.com and we will add it to our list for everyone to enjoy
Stay healthy! We miss you all!!!
